TRANSPORTING CHILD BY TAXI

Post by ginge » Sun, 25 Sep 2005 9:51 pm

Hello. We are moving to Singapore next year with our one year old son. We are not planning to buy a car and wish to use taxis as our main transport. What is the best way to transport a child in a taxi - car seats are impractical in terms of fitting them and then carrying them around at the destination... Is there some form of seat-belt extension available, similar to those used on aircraft? Does anyone have any ideas or advice? Thanks.

taxis and car seats

I'm past the stage of having toddlers so no personal experience but a few friends in your situation have used a fold-flat harness called a "Tote 'N Go". It is a five point harness which straps to a normal seat belt in the taxi - seems a bit fiddly to fix but much better than taking your chances without a seat belt and it's light and easy to pack and carry. You'd have to check on minimum age/weight requirements though.

There are belts that fit over your child's head like a harness and attach to the seatbelt in a taxi. They work like a full body strap - if that makes any sense. They're called "joey safe" I think. You can buy them online for about $100.
