Surfing in SE Asia

Where are the spots to surf in Bintan?? Is there anyways of knowing there are waves before you go? Is it very inconsistant?
Any info on going for a surf would be great.

Level - Been surfing 26 years
Board - 6'4

Eric is right, in front of Mana Mana, and they (the guys at the windsurf school) can take people to a reef break by boat

I know Chris the instructor there and can ask him for reports, last I asked (~2 weeks ago) it was flat

surfed there last December, decent but not great longboard waves

Mana Mana is more known as a wind/kite surf haven

me? 11+ years, board 9'2"/9'5"/9'6", the rest are sold

looks good but hasn't been updated since last year, since Malaysia is close and I haven't surfed there yet it holds the most interest for me

there is also a place in Bali I want to check out but forgot the name (not Kuta obviously)

I think the phillies have some good but inconsistent spots. I had been told that"Cloud Nine" at Siargo Island is a real killer wave.
Anyway, another tip is the fishing village pelabuhan, ratu west java 150km south of Jakarta. waves for all levels of surfing skills and pretty uncrowded. Enough accommodations down there. here is the webpage of one of the most expensive hotels, but u can see the breaks on it.

I'm just a beginner. We surfed a few weeks ago at Kata Beach, Phuket. Have truely got the bug.

Kuta doesn't interest me that much, especially around the holiday season.
