I am unfamiliar with Singapore, can anyone tell me which is a better place to live in, east coast or Orchard Road? I know Orchard Road is the city center, but are there any better reasons for me to live in the East? 8)

Depends on what you what. Singapore is pretty small anyways. I personally prefer living in the East as there's just more room and parks, I can drive around to buy groceries instead of taking public transport or walking. I see tons of expats living around my area. If you don't have a car the Orchard area might be easier. Central and easy to access most other areas by MRT or bus. Not that you need to get out of the city at all to get things done. For singles I'd recommend the city, for families, the east.

I would recommend East Coast for the relative peace and quiet, as well as the wonderful sea view. I wouldn't want to live by Orchard due to the hustle and bustle, but Tanglin is near it and it is quiet.
Just my two cents worth. Cheers.
