Any (non-wind) Surfers out there?

Post by anotherguy » Wed, 14 Jul 2004 10:17 pm

Hi all, a newbie here about to land in Singapore from Japan.

I hear that if I want surf I have to go to Bali or Phuket or somewhere (where?) in Malaysia if I want surf.

I'm no Kelly Slater, I'm a longboarder who's surfed regularly for the past 10 years and am hooked on the lifestyle. So I don't need nor actually want macho-man huge, tube waves. I prefer waist-to-head high beach and point breaks to reefs, uncrowded conditions to the best spots.

So, I'm just looking for a little advice, and, perhaps surf-trip partners.

I've been to Phuket with overhead (but barely surfable) waves a few times, and am not sure how practical it will be to lug a 9'2" board to Chiangi on a Friday night for a Saturday session in Bali or Malaysia.

But maybe it's not as bleak as all that....
