The after effects of lasik

Post by anylyc » Mon, 05 Sep 2005 11:41 am

I encounter propblems with both soft & hard lenses and thought of going for lasik surgery. I recently heard from friends who had their lasik done at least 5/6 years back that they are still facing alot of after lasik problem. I also read an article saying that if in future without proper care, the degree goes up, it will be difficult to get a contact lenses or glasses that will fit the corneal (if in case cannot go for 2nd lasik operation). Is this true?

Hi Anylec,

its true that after you did your 1st lasik and if your degree goes up again you won't be able to wear contact lens anymore, i've confirm this with Dr Jerry Tan's Clinic which is at CamDen Medical centre, cause the cornea is already flatten, the contact lens won't fit anymore, either you'll have to go bk with wearing glasses or go bk to do Lasik a 2nd time. This is one issue that deter me from going for the surgery, cause i think we people nowadays are staring into computer/TV almost like 2/3 of the day most likely myopia will come back again, and i also can't afford to spent $7k-$8k(tis is what Dr Jerry Tan is charging, very expensive but a lot of good feedbacks about him being very careful n detail analyszation of your eyes before he perform lasik on his patients) to go bk for the 2nd lasik.

The second time when you go back to do your lasik is called Lasik Enhancement. It is to improve the vision. Most surgeons are able to do that, but you need to consult your eye surgeon to assess your suitability.

In Sg basically ....
Jerry Tan is the 1st doctor to perform Lasik in Sg and he is sub specialised in cornea & refractive surgery.

If u wan to do Lasik Enhancment in Sg, i probably can recommend a few good lasik surgeons frm both the govt & pte practice.

TTSH: Dr Lee HM & Dr Hee WJ

SNEC: Prof D Tan

Pte: Dr Jerry Tan, Dr Gerard Chuah
