Conned by landlord for renting a house

i gave a month deposit and a month rent as advance to rent a flat. Later landlord didnt give me the flat and not returning my money either.I cant go to small claim court and asked a lawer for legal advice. Lawer told,he can won the case easily and can get me a letter from court saying that this ladlord owes me money .But in the end if landlord says he doesnt have any money then we cant do anything except holding a piece of paper.

Any suggestions .....PLZ

My advise: THRASH your lawyer and get another one. He isn't doing his job.

Which retard gives 2 months rent and not expect the key in exchange? There's a fine line between goodwill and stupidity my friend and you have just crossed it.

That said, your only hope is to leverage upon any evidence of the transaction (and I use this term VERY loosely) to persuade the landlord into reconsidering his position. An actual lawsuit is going to be more trouble than it's worth but can sometimes be a convincing stick to wave. You are obviously a walkover so getting someone to accompany you might turn the tide.

I have everything in written and have SMS's from ladlord mobile saying he will return me my money but he has been saying that for last few months but didnt return anything.

Very common situation in SG, locals thinks all expats very rich. Last time I stayed extra 2 months because my landlord out of cash and can't return deposit back.
