Singapore Expats

Hi Good People,

Ex Jazz/Latin Jazz, Big Band Vocalist returning to Singapore after 40 years, September 26 staying at the Miramar Hotel.

In 1963/65 I used to sing with the Ernesto Deroya Band at the Golden Venus Bar/Club in Orchard Road. We (band members) knew all the good places to eat and play jazz, with members from other bands. I am afraid that all our usual haunts must have either closed or changed completely during the last 40 years.

Can any expat help me with information on new venues and contact with musicians (that were around in my days) still playing good jazz/music and enjoying good food at their bars/clubs. Also, could you give me some info on the Jazz/Music Scene in Singapore.

Round Midnight
42A Cuppage Terrace
One of the last surviving jazz bars in Singapore, this smoky joint is a late-night club that opens till 6am every night with live music from midnight till the bar closes. There are live jam sessions on Mondays, Latin music on Wednesdays and jazz with a hint of the blues and soul on other nights.

Wow ! ! ! 40 years ?

Probably more than three quarters of the board members here were not even born yet, let alone know what the jazz scene was like in those days.

Anyway you might want to come a couple of days earlier as the American Association of Singapore's annual Jazz Nite is happening on Saturday, 24th September 2005, 6 - 11 pm
