using common chutes

this might seem like a dumb question but how does everyone get rid of their household garbage ? do you usually fill up smaller bags ( like the ones they give away at cold storage, NTUC ) and then dispose of them down the common chutes ? Are these common chutes emptied everyday ?

how do you do your recycling ? i suppose it depends on the apartment/ estate rules as well but are there recycling bins everywhere for the usual - glasses, bottles, papers, plastic and styrofoam ?
are recycling days the same everywhere or do they vary from neighbourhood to neighbourhood ?
