Well in that case you should call me realistic, not pessimist?

Pat Robertson is a Christian extremist. He is so sure he has god on his side that he feels free to call for the killing of another human being. In this respect, he is absolutely no different than than the mullahs who issue death edicts for those who violate Shariah law.
And, he is a prime example of why the US MUST stop this rightward drift into religious based government.

Separation of Church and state, baby. Anything else in unconstitutional.

When you go in for a job interview, I think a good thing to ask is if they ever press charges.

Well, congratulations . . . .
Umm, why the defense here? Can you not grasp the thread of this post - everyone agrees this guy is a whacko - you're just giving him credibility - in the wrong sense - by comparing him to Islam's zealots . . .
As in: Uhhh, our loonies are better than theirs . . . .
Are you Wham in disguise?

The point being - in the US people don't tolerate this kind of crap and he has to apologize. In the Arab world it is accepted, there is no outcry.
And no, I am not a dodgy 80's band. Anyway, if I was, I would be The Smithereens.

The confidence of evangelists is scary.
"I think what God meant to say..."

From the Woody Allen film, 'Hannah and Her Sisters', when a character was describing TV evangelists:
"...if Jesus Christ were to come back and see what was going on in his name, he would never stop throwing up."
When you go in for a job interview, I think a good thing to ask is if they ever press charges.

I don't understand why Christians wear the cross. If Jesus came back, do you really think he would want to see the crucifix again?

Pat Robertson is nuttier than a fruitcake. What he said was an embarrasment even to right-wing Christian fundamentalists.
I, for one, am an American (okay, hombres, a citizen of the USA--after all Americans should refer to anyone from the two continents!) . But at the same time, I must say I greatly admire Hugo Chavez for the things he is doing in Venezuela. He is giving the masses a chance to benefit from the country's great wealth by instituting social reforms and programs for their welfare. His detractors are nothing more than greedy bastards out to screw the country. South America needs more leaders like him so that the native people can finally have a fair chance in their own countries.

Christian figure calls on US to murder Venezuelan president
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson urged the United States to assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who is a "dangerous enemy," Roberts told watchers of his "The 700 Club" television show.
"If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson, 75, said in a live broadcast Monday from Christian Broadcasting Network headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Robertson's incendiary comment came at the close of a long report by his CBN news team on Chavez's anti-US rhetoric and growing links to both President Fidel Castro's communist Cuba and Arab nations.
The television preacher and former presidential candidate expressed regret that during a brief and failed civilian-military coup against Chavez in April 2002 the United States did nothing to help topple the populist leader.
"
No need to be concerned.
"Former presidential candidate" - what does this tell you?
It tells me that the American people rejected him and his ideas. This to me is the best proof of the American quality. Hence no need to be concerned.
There are nuts and fruitcakes all over the world, and we should not expect America to be an exception. What this has demonstrated is that Americans reject such candidates.

Lucky they didn't have electric chairs back then . . . Could you imagine millions of Christians walking around with one of these in silver or gold around their necks.

I agree with SMS. IF you read the annual reports which show the immigration numbers PR approval for those over 50 is very low.
