Need Advice: The condo's owner lives just in the next door

Post by STR » Sat, 20 Aug 2005 11:10 pm

Hi all,
I am renting a condo from an agent who fully represented the owner. The owner had declined to meet me since the first time saying that most of the landlord like that in Spore; they just ask the agent to do everything. And, I got the feeling that the landlord is too demanding by inserting some uncommon clauses, etc. although I eventually managed to ask the agent to make some adjustment.

And, after 3 months, few days ago, I got a very shocking news from soemone.. that the landlord is actually living just at the same condo, same floor, just next to my unit. To me, this is unfair, I feel very uneasy about this, feel being "cheated"; i also feel lose some privacy as the landlord has probably kept watching me, what I have done; who can guarantee they do not sneak or peek into my condo? at least to check the apartment condition?

I have been thinking to just move out, but if i do so i will lose my 1 month deposit. Can somebody advice that I can move out without losing my deposit? because I think the agreement has been made without a completley fair way, and if I knew the owner lives next door I would definitely not stay here.

Until now, I am still pretending to the owner (the only neighbor in the floor that never say hello to me) that I know nothing about this.

Any advice? Thanks a lot.

Landlord as neighbour

Unless you're planning to wreck the house to pieces or have parties every night, I don't see why you should be intimidated by his presence. It is common to have landlords as neighbours.

The thing is to establish a good rapport with your landlord ie: say Hi, pass them some homemade cookies or cakes, you wouldn't want to be pretending you don't know him right...

u never did anything wrong, why are u scared of him living next to you? the next time u see him, tell him," hi, nice home u have, thx for renting it to me". think that'll give him an idea that it's not him watching others, there's also others watching him.

Now that he's given you the shock of knowing that he's just next door, return him the shock by saying 'hi', that you know he's there.

Dont worry, anyway I would alway change the locks after moving in to any apartment. Otherwise you may well come home to an empty apartment, you never know who as keys to the place. But move out no way, why not invite them in for a drink and a chat!
