HELP!!!

Post by Katie » Fri, 09 Jul 2004 8:51 pm

My husband & I are due to move to Singapore with his work in October & we are both very excited, I am also due to have a baby any time now, but even the move to Singapore with a baby doesnt worry me as lots of people have done it!!

What does worry me is my dog, we have a gorgeous border terrier who is 18 months he is at my feet now, great character full of life, is so calm in the house doesnt bark but likes to play outside. Will it be hell for him in Singapore? Truthfully.....I can leave him with my parents in Yorkshire though I would miss him terribly - pathetic I know - he is NOT a spoilt little dog he gets told off when naughty etc, but does love to run around. from what I can make out Singapore is only really any good for toy dogs which dont need much exercise. Any truthful advice would be appreciated. We are coming out without the dog to assess the situation anyway but would interested to hear your opinions.

Also where would you say would be suitable for living for us I am 30 my husband is 32 we are lively people who love going out but also love our quiet evenings in. Obviously we have a baby to think about (& possibly a dog!!) We are also outdoor type people love walking tennis etc. Cliche I know but I also love to shop but dont necessarily want to live on top of Orchard Road!!!!!

Many thanks - cant believe im writing to a forum - not very me!!

Hi Katie,

Congrats on your first post :-)

I'm afraid you're not going to like it much, but here's a useful URL of an earlier thread we had about dogs in Singapore.

Please let us know, okay?

Regards.

And welcome to Singapore ;-)

yes I had read the exchange!!!!! A border is very different to a Siberian Huskey!
It's just that I have read some emails saying it is fine others saying that it isnt & spoken to some people saying that their dogs love it & others who advise me not to take him. So all in all very confusing!
We arent bringing him out straight away anyway so we will assess the situation & go from there.

Thanks anyway
KT

I know it. It's an open forum, you tend to get open replies :-)

Dogs differ, sure. But they just about all get hot and bothered in Singapore, anywhere that's hot and humid, for that matter. As you undoubtedly know, they can only sweat from their pads and, essentially, from their tongue. As such, they get hot pretty quickly.

The dogs I see in Singapore (and I tend to watch for it now, since that thread) appear lackadaisical and unhappy. Yes, it seems the larger ones are affected more, especially the breeds with thicker and longer coats.

Well, the best way to gauge is to come and look for yourself, you're right. Let us know what you think, okay? We're always looking forward to our viewers' feedback.

Kind regards,

NBB
