Hi, I've read various bits and bobs from these forums - and judging by the amount replies to the various questions raised; it seems the readers are a pretty helpful bunch.
We are moving to singapore in November for a five year contract [maybe more]. we are coming in from Portugal, although we are British. We're giving up our house in Portugal and were hoping to move lock, stock & barrell, from Portugal to singapore. We keep getting conflicting reports however on what we can and cannot bring in. I've checked the sing gov customs web-site and things didn't seem too bad. But even our removers are warning against bringing our DVD, video, CD & software collections with us and say that customs will want to view/listen to it all and charge us S$3.00 per hour for the privilege.
I am sure this question has been asked many times before, but I can't find any reference.
Anyone got any advice??
T&A

We have moved to Singapore in July from Australia and were advised not to bring these are they will be checked. But I think that refers to your own home movies and pirated videos. We also got our boxes yesterday and out of 25 boxes 7 had been opened by customs and left opened. Thankgoodness our removalists at this end were honest as everything did arrive but left in the wrong hands we would have had seven boxes with contents missing.

Thanks for the reply. Actually since posting my original question; I have learnt how to 'search' the forums and there is quite a lot of info/advice on bringing in personal collections of DVDs etc. Still a bit conflicting though. I remain concerned that customs can charge the S$3.00 per half hour viewing if they so-choose. Suppose it's no real difference from any other country - where customs are always a law unto themselves. Makes sense to risk it though; I THINK!!
