Pardon my ignorance but I don't really know the difference between strip and hot wax.

But I can share what I know with you. I did my wax at Strip which has a branch in Holland Village, and at Wheelock Place and also at Shaw Centre. They slather on hot thick wax on the nether regions and get it off with strips of cloth. Is that what you consider hot wax?

Strip wax is the one you mention. Hot wax is where by they slather a pink hot wax and strip it off without using any cloth. It is less painful.
