Possible Formation of Book Club

Postby guruvishwanath » Wed, 03 Aug 2005 12:35 pm

I was reading a forum entry on some people asking about Book Clubs. They was a newbie who was willing to pioneer this effort. I have been to a couple of book clubs here (Book Cafe). But I would not mind, and if there are sufficient numbers, to start one around here. I remember there used to be a scrabble gamers at Doug's many years ago. But that was then. If you are keen and interested, let me know. It would need a week to setup a venue, selection of a book and getting the logistics organized.

Ciao!

I'd be interested. Although not sure I'd have enough time to read a book a week though!!

Hi GuruV

Great, finally!

I have been working towards formation of one myself (but havent gotten far) and would be great if we could co-organise it.

What say you?

Looking forward to hear from you!

Cheers,
Kats

What say you? You could mail me at _cancerkats at gmail dot com_ and we can discuss more on it?

Looking forward to hear from you!

I'd be interested too, though the mention of there being a "17-year old" something's got me wondering.
If that's the average age we're talking about, I'm not sure you should even be on singaporeexpats :P
ok. ok.. I'm kidding.

I think it's very easy, and exciting enough to start something.. keeping it going is another thing though.
It's more likely to work if individually people keep getting what they're looking for out of it. So maybe it'd be good to ask ourselves what it is we want out of this.
E.g, myself, if I'm to go for exchanging ideas and discussing with others I'd be hoping that it helps me see things from angles I hadn't thought of
considering and helps me think creatively.
For me, if such an objective is achieved I'm pretty sure it'd be fun to hang out with that gang..

Hey kats,

Why don't you hold a gathering at, lets say, Eddie's Place ( a Restraunt/bar) at the Eurasian Association Building, and ask people who are interested to come and give you ideas about the book club, and at the same time get to know each other??
I'm so stupid that I surprise myself sometimes...

Good idea!

Samantha,
Eddie's Place ( a Restraunt/bar) at the Eurasian Association Building - I havent been to this place. I hope the noise level is a bit low there? If not I will have to come up with a new venue.

The rest of you, a show of hands as to how many of you can make it this coming Wednesday at 8PM?

Cheers,
Kats

Book Club

Postby paellafanatic » Sun, 07 Aug 2005 5:02 pm

Hi guys, I've never participated in a book club. (Hi Karthik too!) But I love reading books and wish I could discuss books with more people. What kind of books exactly would you be thinking of discussing? I would love to participate but I guess it depends on what books we're discussing and talking about. Email me at socialjustice at gmail.com

Thanks

Hi Kats_ ,

I'd suggest this Thursday 8PM coz I can't make it on Wednesday evening.
But if that's the most convenient day for enough people, then just go ahead..

Alright then, enough number of you cant make it on Wednesday.

Thursday it is! 8 PM.

Paellafanatic, dont worry too much about the nature of books at the moment. The very purpose of this meeting is for you to voice out your needs. This is so the club can tailor to the needs of its participants.

Samantha, could you post the directions to the venue for the benefit of the rest of us including MRT station or whatever it takes one to get there. :)

Cheers,
Kats

PS: I would be personally inviting you guys and the rest who were interested from the previous post through email or PM here again on Tuesday or Wednesday.
