Postby James » Tue, 06 Jul 2004 9:06 pm

I am a uk citizen due to come to Singapore the first week of September to stay for a year and will be looking for a job in the financial markets area. Can anyone advise what the market is like at the moment? also what would be the best way to go about looking for a position? agencies, headhunters e.t.c? I have 7 years experience in back / middle office of capital markets and would desperatley love to settle in the Lion city!

Are you having any problems finding employment? are there any obstacles you face being an xpat?

Hi James,
I had quite a number of working experience working in the banking industry, specilized in business lending. I was told by my friend that if you don't mind a sales job in banking, i.e. mortgage or credit card, you should be able to get one without any difficulties. But if you want to find any job out from the sales aspect, it might take you a while to get one. Reason being, the employer needs to get you an employment pass. Therefore, if they can get someone who is Singaporean or PR to do it, then it will save all their hassles. Well, I am sure there will be some disappointment during the job hunting...but don't give up! Keep it up and we will get one one day....God bless! :D

Does anyone else have any headhunting contacts or any tips on finding a role in the capital markets sector?

Thnaks in advance,

James :D

You can try people like Robertson Smart, Webbe International, etc - you can find them in the yellow pages online. Good luck! :-)
