If you ask me? Over prices! Unfortunetly now a days, they are so called "Health clubs". Years ago they used to be called "gym", then "fitness clubs" and soon "Social clubs". I mean dont get wrong there is a lot of good ones, but I think you can spend much less money and obtain more results. Depending on your needs! If you just want to work out and meet people, then it is fine, Cali has more attractive prices, but I have been told Planet fitness has a better athmosphere. As for private gyms, I would recommend Sculptures Bodies in Meridien Hotel, on Orchad. Not sure about the price but at least they pro's!
If you need to combine nutrition plan and work out then here is your solution: www.lenobleonline.com GOOD LUCK!

Since I posted that, I've since (kinda) understood the reality of these big fitness centers in Singapore.

First off, they're all STUPIDLY located downtown CBD! From the map one branch seemed like walking distance from the other!

Second, horrifying joining fees of $500-700! That can sustain my creatine and protein supplement for six (6) months!
And the monthly fees of $100-150 is just crap :/

I'm joining SSC gyms.

The American rip off!

These fitness gyms are only geared to take the money, I joined Hollywood Fitness in Taiwan in 2003 at a cost of 39,650 NTD and 998 per month. I could use any other club in other countries.

While back in the UK in august 04 untill October, 04 Unknowingly to me Califonia Fitness had purchased Hollywood Fitness, on my return, I was informed that I could transfer my Hollywood Membership to Singapore. due to me moving the same month I never attempted to use Califonia Fitness in Taiwan.

However in Singapore I went to change my mebership card,, to a Califonia one, I was told I must pay a further 2888 singapore $ for the lifetime membership. I replied that my membership is lifetime and showed the contract. however Califonia Fitness made new rules.

The membership was only transferable, with a new package. Pissed off I decided not to join. 10 months later I discovered that califonia fitness in Taiwan are still taking monthly fees from the Taiwan account.

The bank could't stop the direct debit, becuase the fees where being claimed still by Hollywood, which only exsists on paper. This is a big scam which i believe is effecting 1000's of people. If you are one, phone your bank and say your credit card is lost, the account will be frozen.

I have given califonia Fitness 10 days to rturn the funds or face legal action, I have never had any contract with Califonia Fitness and I was turned away from using their facilities with my Hollywood membership card, becuase I wouldn't upgrade. In my opinion they have violated the contract, even though they took the company over.

Yesterday they offerd me free use of the facilities untill the error is cleared up, I refused on the grounds that if I accept free trg, I would jepordise my case against them in Court.

Be very careful out there, these people are professional scammers, with legal advisors.

How much is the monthly fee after the nine months, blissfulchic?

What is the yearly fee (if there's such a thing) after the nine months?
