import of motor vehicles

Post by mien » Thu, 07 Jul 2005 9:30 pm

Hi people! We might be moving to Singapore in two months and I was wondering whether there are any import restrictions and the likes for bringing in your personal car and motorcycle.

I own a VW Beetle 1966, a Honda C70 1978 and a Vespa 1962 and I'd really like to bring them along. Are these considered to be classic cars / bikes? Does that matter much for import licences etc.?

Look forward to hearing!

Cheers,

M

Any vehicle older than 3 years cannot be imported. Autos must be right hand drive. All must pass inspection at off island official inspection stations.

There is probably a way to get an antique classification, but considering what a major hassle and expense it is to bring in a 2 year old car, you'd have to be a real masochist to consider bringing those in.

Not advisable. Very expensive on the duty/ taxes on import over 10 yrs old motor vehicles.

motoring in singapore is expensive. Bringing in old vehicles would be troublesome and expensive exercise. You could purchase used vehicles in singapore for your use. Singapore registered vehicles are not cheap. Better to come here and find out. You may end up liking the public transport service which is good and inexpensive. contact me at [email protected] we could talk more thanks
