Schools and accommodation in Singapore

Post by Abbafan » Thu, 01 Jul 2004 6:00 pm

Can anyone help? My husband, myself and 2 children aged 13 and 8 will be coming to Singapore in Mid Sept for around 10 weeks as my husband will be working there. We are Australians and would like our children to attend school for this time but we cannot afford International Schools. Also any ideas on accommodation would be handy The company my husband works for is supplying a hotel room but this will be too small for 4 of us. We would need to be close to the city as this is where my husband will be working. If anyone has any suggestions that would be wonderful.

I would suggest staying in a serviced appartment and as far as the childrens education goes can you do home schooling as ten weeks is not long enough for them to settle into a new school and system. Ask your current school what options they would suggest. Plus the experience of spending time in a different country is an education in itself. :)

Hi, I tend to agree with Dutchy. For accommodation near the center, a Serviced Apartment (examples Somerset Compass, Somerset Grand, Ascott) are very central, though a little pricey. But, for 10 weeks, I think you're unlikely to get a normal apartment and a hotel with 4 of you ... :!:
For education, I also agree that you are unlikely to get into either local or International School. However, how about a private tutor? That could be a real opportunity to not only keep up with the three R's, but also maybe pick up some local flavour.
Good luck.
