What to bring from Australia to Singapore????? HELP!

Post by Mr Ed » Thu, 01 Jul 2004 2:25 pm

Hello

We are able to load up a shipment to Singapore with all our goods from Australia. What would you bring over if you were us besides the normal house stuff.

I thought wine but find I have to pay $9 a bottle in tax. Is it still worth doing this?

We are 2 adults and 2 children so would be interested in what you recommend we take besides the normal furniture etc.

Hi,

Not that I would ever counsel breaking the law, but you only pay tax if you declare it
In my experience, you can get almost any item in Singapore for 'about' the same price as you'd pay in Australia. You've nailed one of the two exceptions, alchohol, with the other being cars.
Good luck

If you're only planning to stay for a year or two, it might be a hassle to ship everything back plus the new stuff you acquired here.

You can practically find everything you need here, taxes are reasonably low here, GST is only at 5%. I would suggest bringing stuff that is absolutely vital that you can't live without.

I moved to Canada years ago and brought 2 suitcases over and ended up with 8 to bring back. So, do think carefully on the items you wana bring over.

All the best!

Most things you will be able to find in Singapore without any problem.

Perhaps the only thing I would stock up, as I'm rather overweight, is clothing in my size. It can be a rather troublesome finding that pair of shorts, or t-shirt in "mr big" sizes here, let alone something I would consider worth wearing.

Shoes may (possibly) be another one, as I'm pretty fussy on style. However having finally found what I liked , it turned out to be cheaper than Australian prices, .. particularly during the Great Singapore Sale.
