Loads of places in N Yorks : Harrogate, Pately Bridge, Ilkley, North Yorks Moors, Thirsk blah blah......too many to list.
Cotswolds, try Bourton on the Water and Stow on the Wold....great little villages and very picturesque too.....picture post card places.
Bad weather in 'The Lakes' you say? lol. Glad nothing has changed. Windermere is too touristy for my liking. Lake Conniston (might be spelt wrongly) is smaller, more out of the way but very nive. Excellent pubs too!
