Where to stay in Tioman
Where to stay in Tioman
Hi , can you recommend a resort on Tioman, which is comfortable but also affordable 8) ?
Paya Beach Resort.
You can go through Holiday Bagus or Discovery Tours, who are the main agents for Paya beach. There's also another resort behind it, just a little further away from the beach call Paya Tioman Resort. Could check that out too, but no idea who are the agents that handle that resort.

Hi Hummel,
I Stayed at Berjaya once, perfect for the pamper-me getaway.

I also stayed at the Samudra Swiss Chalet place once, ideal for your back-to-basics (long)weekend.

Berjaya is pretty costly, especially taking into account the low cost of living in Malaysia. Someone is making mega-bugs here but getting away with it, so good on them. I'm not going there again unless they drop in price considerably.
Samudra is very serene, nothing to do but soak up the tranquility, find your inner peace, revitalize. The chalets are spartan, like being in a Flintstones episode, a no-frills place but very nice. I loved it and plan on going again next month.
Let us know what you decided on, and how it was, ok? Cheers. Have fun!

TIOMAN
Uest,
I have some more questions regarding the Berjaya place. My wife and i took our two daughters to one of the Desaru resorts (Desaru Golden B each Hotel) and it was a complete DUMP. The place is 20 something years old and literally falling apart. There was mold all over the bathroom and the room smelled like mildew. My guess is that the owner is milking it for the last few bucks he can get before closing it down. There was garbage on the beach and while we kept a good sense of humor over having been "had" by their pretty looking website - we are now extra cautious about heading to Malaysian resorts based on the web site pictures.
As i look at the Berjaya Web site i get an eerie deja vu feeling - similar - nice photos etc - but taken from a distance and possibly 10 years old. Any additional comments that you can offer on the place (rooms / food / beach etc) will be very much appreaciated. Also, FYI - we used to travel more primitive - and i stayed in one of the beach hut places on Tioman 15 yrs ago but with a 1 yr old and a 3 yr old - temporarily have to pay up to make sure the food is safe and that they sleep at night etc.
Thanks,WHAM

Re: TIOMAN
Wham, Berjaya is very nice, no worries, nothing passé about them. The staff to guest ratio is quite high, service is good, the interiors, in fact the entire compound, well kept, and there's a vast choice of makan to chose from, mostly buffet-style. I have no issues with them at all - other than the relatively high price.Wham wrote:
