Any advice on getting tourist visa to US for our Filipino Maid. We are US citizens, have 10 month old, but maid was denied for a 2 week trip with us to Hawaii?
Going to re-apply - but wonder what helps? Any advice?
THANKS!

Think you are wasting your time as you are extremely unlikely to succeed. To be successful, you have to show convincing evidence that she has something to return home for and therefore is extremely unlikely to want to stay on in the US. Given that she is already working away from home in a foreign country, this is a Catch 22. We came across this problem when we employed a maid who had been denied a visa even though she had worked for many years for a Singaporean family who were being sent on secondment for advanced training with the Air Force in US. It's almost impossible to get a visa for an FDW - the embassy website explains all this. And it's not really that hard to manage for a couple of weeks on holiday with one child, so I'm sure you'll be OK.

I can't help you but your question does permit me to editorialize a bit.
[rant]What a stupid, inane policy the current administration has in place. It does nothing to counter terrorism by blocking your maid's entry. And with millions of illegals pouring across the southern borders every year, how pointless and unfair is it to deny law abiding citizens the opportunity to bring their maid? Guilty before things ever get started. You are the victim of eyewash, designed to pretend that the government is doing something. One more item in a humongously long list of stupid things this current administration does.[/rant]

Have now talked to a number of US Citizens who HAVE taken maid to US and gotten visas. So, will try again and have additional information / evoidence to provide.
Will see what happens.
By the way, to other person 'housekeeper' asking about maid to KL, no problem to take Filipino maids to Malaysia or Thailand - nothing required...

Depends where your maid is from. If she is ASEAN national, no problem.

Hiring maid or nanny
Replies: 2
First post
Do you think is more advisable to hire a maid to take care of your child or send your child to nanny to take care?
Last post
It'd definitely be more convenient to get a live-in helper, but it will probably make your child more dependent on him or her. Not to say that he/she...
