PR after renounciation of SG citizenship?

Post by spiriticon » Sat, 11 Jun 2005 8:42 pm

Hi..

I'm a 21 year old male , been living in the UK since I was 12 and became naturalised.

I returned to SG to serve my NS and am currently back in the UK to continue my life as it was. I'm toying with the idea of renouncing my citizenship sooner rather than later, because I know it's a criminal offence.

My greater plan is to get a PR later on but I hear it's not possible to get a PR after renouncing SG citizenship?

Also, what would everybody recommend? To give up UK citizenship or to give up SG citizenship?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Your UK passport will show place of birth and you name, when you enter Singapore, the custom will easily match the details and will know you hold duel citizenship. Since you have served you NS, they will not do much to you but will give you 30 days to decide, Sing or UK?

If I were you, I will give up the Sing passport.

Yes, if is difficult to get PR if you renounce the Sing citizenship but is not impossible. I know someone renounce the passport but still managed to get a PR status and work in Singapore because he is holding a Master degree and there is a need of such talent in Singapore. When you apply for PR, most likely the custom will interview you and ask why you want to get PR status, you just have to tell him/her you are regetted to renounce the passport and now want to contribute and prefer the lifestyle in Sing
