Alrite ... for you , here goes....

Hmm ... Firstly to let you know, when i usually watch a movie that is based on other written work or a TV series , i like to judge the movie on its own merits rather than comparing it to the original form its based on. That been said , i felt that in this case the hollywood adaptation was actually a dissappointment !

This movie i felt lacked a story structure. There were funny bits and pieces but they was no concrete structure. More over , they kept bringing up ideas and incidents during the movie that werent tied up and in the end just forgotten or left. It turned out like they feel into the trap of making it like a typical hollywood movie by showing Auther Dent as a hero who saves the girl and the romance between them.

Althought this movie wasnt supposed to be deep and high in sci fi , it really lacked the main ingredient as well , and thats humour.

Bottomline : give it a miss !

I admire the above poster for giving a film it's merit by ignoring the quality of the book - nice idea.

In my humble opinion I have been listening to he original radio broadcast before going to see the film & could not ignore what I already know.

The books are great - Adams delivers great imagery and humour

The radio series - ground breaking in it's time, and again very funny.

The tv series - again very good despite the 2nd head looking like a puppet

The film - hmmmm, if you know & love the books & radio plays you may well be disappointed, but isn't that always the way? Your mental picture of what is going on does not match what is portrayed in the film (However I feel that this was achieved by Jackson in LoTR as Tolkien gave so much detail in the books).

Back to the film. It tries very hard to keep up the flavour of the previous versions. The opening song is catchy & sets the mood for the film. As KT put it "This movie i felt lacked a story structure" WEll there wasn't much structure in the books - Adams wrote as his mind worked going off at tangents left, right & centre.

The new elements to the film were both pleasing & disappointing - the extra story lines - rescuing the girl, thinking cap, more Vogons etc.

If you are a fan you will see it & will probably come out wishing Adams was still alive & had more input. If it is new to you then you will probably come out wondering what was going on.
