Country Club in Singapore

Post by CC » Sat, 04 Jun 2005 7:24 pm

I am intending to join a country club. I am an expat but I do not wish to have an expat-expat type of club like any American Club or Hollandse Club, but more a local-family club where my family we do cultural exchanges with the locals. I have a budget of about S$50,000 for the membership, what options do I have?

Any advice would be appreciated for this newcomer. :P

Pinetree Club or The Pines is another option which is also near Raffles club. Which also has some expats but it is a predominantly local club. Should be able to find lots of local friends there.

The Raffles and Pinetree clubs fees are closer to S$10,00 mark.
For S$50,000, try Keppal country club, Laguna clulb which has golf courses as well.

Check www.teeup-golf.com for an idea on both golf and non-golf clubs.

Most clubs here are local clubs excpet American, British and Hollandse clulb which have a hiigher %tage of expats ( about 50-60% at least ).

You have to visit the club to have a feel of the place. Generally, locals are friendlly towards expats untill more recentlyl there is growing resentment ( due to expats own bad behaviour ) towards expats but are not too widespread as yet.

I recommend Singapore Swimming Club in the east.

Lately, there are more Expat families appearing in the club, give it a nice balance of cultures. The term memberships allow for membership which doesn't require a large upfront fee.

You seem to have a decent budget for membership - you could try for a local club and one of the golfing/beach clubs in Malaysia or Bintan...I was in the latter recently and saw an adv. for the Bintan Lagoon Golf Membership which looked interesting and if we had the budget I would investigate something along those lines as it is so nice to have a regular getaway.
