I'm 21 old male living in Germany all my life. My parents are bold singaporean. I don't want to serve NS singapore. What will happen if I return to Singapore for holiday? Will they put me in jail or fine me?

sg isnt too bad a place.. i believe there are plus and minus anywhere you go.. here probably its more competitive.. so much so that kids can go into depression so i read.. though not as bad as in korea or japan?
its really up to one to decide if here is a good place to stay. i have no regret serving NS or problem with life here so far, though if you love the other side of the world, then it's best no to take up sg citizenship for your son as someone suggested.. though I met a young friend during my recent in-camp who has been living in Manila all his 18 years, and came back to serve NS.
I believe serving in NS makes a man more mature. At least, that happened to my brother. Guys friends who have served in NS tend to be more mature than those who have not. Just personal experience, don't mean all those not serving applied. If my next kid is a son, I'm sure would let him serve like my young brother!

Scratch head wrote:Hi
Been reading thru the forum and managed to get bits and pieces of info abt the above. I do have some questions though.
Firstly, I am SG woman with SG PR (M'sia) husband. We have a son born in USA last year (so he is a US citizen). We are currently living in USA.
I am wondering if I shd apply for SG citizenship for him.
Understand from the forum that if he's out of Singapore by 11 yrs old, he will not be liable to serve NS, but how abt the bond thing? Do we still have to pay for the exorbitant bond?
What if we do go back without SG citizenship, can he easily be a PR?
All your inputs will be greatly appreciated!
Are you willing to let your son giving up USA citizenship? It is what will happen if he is becoming SG citizenship. Singapore only allow 1 nationality. This is for your information. You should check the rules before you decide.
