Need some buying advice please!!!!

Post by Pete J » Tue, 24 May 2005 8:43 pm

Hi everyone! :D
Im going to Australia for my summer holliday this year and can't wait!! Anyway I'm stopping over in Singapore for 3 nights and was hoping you guys might be able to help:

I would like to buy a PSP while im in Singapore, as they aren't released in the UK until about September. Ive heard that electronics are cheap in comparison to the UK so this is my main reason for buying one there. It will also give me something to do during the flights!!!

According to the internet, PSPs are priced at aroung SG$455 at the moment. I'm going to arrive towards the end of the "Great Singapore Sale" and was wondering whether this would bring the prices down?

Also, from research ive done on the net, it seems Funan IT Mall is the best place to buy electronics, would you agree? I obviously dont want anything which is faulty/fake so is this recommended?
I'd appreciate any feedback, thanks!

Pete

Electronics seem to be about 10 to 15 percent cheaper than in Europe (VAT, maybe?)

Funan IT mall is a good place to shop... prices are posted and relatively fixed... no bartering.

You can also go to Sim Lim center... a lot of computer and photo stuff... but you best know what you want and be prepared to bargain. Lucky Plaza is good for photo and limited electronics... here you must bargain, and you must also insure that you are getting the real warranty, etc. Most places are OK but some are quite happy to give you a great price then add on all the stuff that comes in the box.

Funnan IT Mall is to expensive, Sim Lim is much cheaper if you are able to barter. Mustafa centre is also very cheap.

Thanks

Thanks guys, Ive heard Mustafa is good too! Im not sure about Sim Lim because I've heard that they often over-charge tourists  !

I'd rather spend a little bit more to buy from a reputable shop etc, any ones you can recommend or which I should avoid? Ive never tried bartering before but Im thinking about printing off some prices on the singapore websites before I go- if I show them these, do you think theyd try to match the prices?
