Bus to SAS

Post by singaporebound » Fri, 13 May 2005 5:22 pm

Any experience with the bus ride to SAS? If we live downtown I understand the bus ride will be about 40 to 50 minutes each way. Pick being at 7:00 am.

All depends on where you live exactly. Its best to call the bus office at school once you have narrowed down your search and ask. Of course this is all subject to change with the tides of students moving in and out. Yeap runs an incredibly tight outfit, and starting next year will have anti-hijacking devices on all buses, as well as health profiles of students and speed indicators which all get fed into the bus office's main frame.

We are in the Orchard area and my kids are on the bus at 6:55am. Very early. But I know at Four Season Park for example it comes empty and later, 7:10 or so and fills up then goes straight to school. My kids love being downtown now, the bus is no big deal.

I have friends around Upper Bukit Timah which is much closer to school, and their kids have a 45 min ride. From the east Coast its over an hour. Only about 1/3 of the Woodlands residential neighborhood is truly within walking distance to school. And of course none at all in the driving rain. The traffic problem at school is so bad at bus time that cars (mostly Woodlands parents dropping off their kids) are banned during the morning rush. So being in Woodlands would mean shorter travel time for the kids, but obviously much more for you.

I know someone who pays $7.50 for cab fare to pick up her 4 year old at the SAS Early Childhood Center everyday. Parting words, the bus is no big deal, your company may cover it and its a state of the art transport system. Hope this helps.

The previous post is right.
If your kids are younger, you might want to factor in how they will handle the extra time on the bus each day. Also, don't forget to factor in how much you will be driving to the school for activities, t-ball games in the evening, etc.
If your kids are older they will probably enjoy the Orchard area more and will adjust more quickly to the length of the bus ride than an elementary age child...especially if your child needs more "play" time when they get home.
