driving test

Post by littlel » Sat, 05 Jun 2004 3:57 am

I am relocating to Singapore next week.

I would like to learn to drive while I am there and do the driving test.

Does anyone know if there are any restrictions regarding how long someone must be in the country before being allowed to do the test?

In the UK there is a theory test and a practical test. What are the procedures in Singapore for obtaining a licence?

Also are driving lessons expensive?

I am aware of the high cost of driving in Singapore but nevertheless I would like to learn to drive.

thanks

Hi LittleL,

Basically, you need to pass the basic theory first. With the pass result, you may go ahead to take the advance theory (will expire in a years time). During this year, you have to take the practical lessons before the test. If you fail to obtain the licence before the expiration, u have to retake your advance theory.

For driving lessons, you make the those by private instructors who charge around $25 per hour. Must check around ok? I know of a female instructor (was my instructor when I learn driving more than 10 years ago).

Else, you can enrol in the driving school which I think they do have a package. My wife manage to pass all the test in her first attempt and she completed everything within a year and cost her around S$1,000.

Hope this give you more insight to your questions.

Regards.
