Coolest area to rent a flat (fancy stuff)

Post by Thomas » Sat, 05 Jun 2004 12:52 am

I'm moving to Singapore in 2 months and would like to find out which the fanciest area in town is. Asked differently: what is the Notting Hill of Singapore?

Where can I find a great, up-market place to live (I was thinking of spending $4k/month at least) and have all amenities arround??

There must be areas like that I imagine.

Can you help?

I would say Emerald Hill area. You could rent one of those lovely converted conservation (historically preserved) shophouses (like townhouses) but these usually have no facilities (pool, etc). Alternatively, if you're for condominium living, you could consider Hullet Court, which is also located within the Emerald Hill area. Location is fabulous, walking distance to orchard road, which is the Oxford Street/Regent St of Singapore and there is a tube station within walking distance (Somerset MRT station). Warning: It comes with a price as rents are quite high.

Alternatively, there is another pocket of these converted conservation houses at Blair Road/ Spottiswoode Park Road but this is closer to Chinatown, and not as central as Emerald Hill Road.

Or if you're looking for a more bohemian lifestyle community to live in, you could consider the Holland Village area, but again, nowhere as central as Emerald Hill Road.

You can check out Emerald Hill Road and other similar conservation townhouses (some come with jacuzzi, rooftop gardens, etc.) for rent.

Hope you find the information helpful.

What about the Club Street area in the China town, tanjong pagar precincts? Lost of nice nooks and corners with great eateries and easy access to some nice clubs. Restored conservation terraces mingle with some of the newer apartment condominiums such as Emerald Court, although there arent many of these developments. Heritage terraces are mainly for businesss purposes given proximity to CBD and even if these were restored for residential purposes the rent will be way above your budget of $4k. Same comment for the Hullet Cairnhill areas. You may have to settle for Spottiswode/Blair areas if you are strictly interested in more affordable heritage properties.
