Confused with Social Visitor Seeking Employment In Singapore

Post by Mr Mojo » Thu, 28 Apr 2005 9:53 am

Hello

I have been looking at the ICA website. I will be moving to Singapore soon to take up work and my girlfriend is wanting to come over and look for work there. She holds a Thai passport.

According to the ICA website http://app.ica.gov.sg/serv_visitor/soci ... asp#spouse

She will need to fill in a Form 14 and a Form V39. So she can get a Social Visitor Seeking Employment In Singapore Pass.

But Form V39 states that she can not be employeed etc.

What is the best way for her to come and stay for and look for work??

I am confused.

hey bro, yes when she comes over and if she opts to look for work she can do that. but if you use that form that you mentioned to extend her stay here with reason that she'll be seeking employment as justification, I believe that would not be acceptable with ICA since that form is only for meant the extension of social visit pass per se and not for employment purposes

if ever she will take the gamble and find work here, she'll be needing a work permit or employment pass to be able to secure her stay leaglly in singapore. but in working conditions that would be not so cool since applying for the said pass would take 2-3 weeks...but if it's already set she can just go home to taiwan first then go back to collect the said pass.

best case is get married here via ROM and apply for a dependents pass because you'll be working here as mentioned so I assume you'll have an employment pass. then once approved, she can stay with you as long as your EP is valid and if she finds work she'll only be needing a letter of consent to work with DP..but talk about the wedding thing... :D

hi i used to work for a bank dealing with expat employ pass etc.

I think she may have to secure a job like u do first and apply the emply pass thru the co otherwise, she just have to try her luck by going to Singapore with u but on social visit and contact job agencies beforehand for interview etc. Finding a job in Singapore for a foreigner is not so easy, depending on type of qualification she is holding and what skill/exp she has. She can stay in singapore on the first custom stamp for a month so after this one month she can extend another month if need to. But if so lucky she cant find one yet then don't think the ICA will allow a third stamp which mean she has to leave the country and come bk again.

Unless like the guy who said get married and she can apply dependant pass thru you but that may not allow her to work only live in singapore. But she can try to find a job with more time in this case and with a job in hand, she then has to cancel dependent pass to apply the employment pass thru her co.

Mate, you have every right to be confused as firstly, the pass is for a foerign spouse of a Singapore citizen or permanent resident. Singapore does not recognise defacto relationships.

If she is your wife and you get an employment pass in Singapore, then you might be able to get her a dependents pass (which might allow her to work, but under heavy restrictions). If she wants to work full-time, she may do so but the company must be willing to apply for a employment pass (EP) or work permit (WP) for her, in which case she gives up her dependents pass and change it either to an EP or WP.
