Bringing a PC from the UK

Post by RichardJohnson » Wed, 27 Apr 2005 4:51 pm

Hi there,

Can anyone advise if there's a reason that my home pc (purchased in the UK) will not work in Singapore? My main area of concern is around the connection to the Internet.

Many thanks

Richard.

Should work just fine... we are still north of the equator. Ethernet connects are the same the world over.

You won't even have to change the electric plug...

Your still better off selling it and buy new, the transportation cost is not really worth it.

This is a very good point. Unless it is a laptop which you can carry, or unless you can figure out how to carry the PC as luggage pieces on the airline, costs will be prohibitive... as much or more than a new PC.

What about the software?

Post by ARExpat » Sun, 15 Jan 2006 5:22 am

I am concerned about leaving my pc in the States and purchasing a new one in Singapore because of the amount of software both my husband and I have on our two computers. If we have to purchase a new computer AND the software we are talking about big bucks. Even if we transport just the software, it might well outweigh one computer. Does anyone know how hard it would be on the hard drive to box up a pc and transport it on the flight over? Would the security scanns mess with the hard drive or other components?

My tip: Remove the motherboard, RAM and harddrive from the PC and pack them in anti-static bags and carry them in your hand luggage. Leave the big, heavy casing and just buy a new casing here.
