Leaving Singapore - give up PR status?

Post by Guest » Tue, 26 Apr 2005 6:27 pm

Rather sooner than expected, I'm leaving Singapore to take up a new position elsewhere. I'm PR, and since I work in banking it's quite likely that I could end up back here sometime in the next few years.

Should I give up my PR status? I understand that if I do give up PR:

I will need to reapply (and no guarantee of it being granted).
I will need to reinstate my current CPF contributions + interest.

Any advice or links to reliable sources of info that will help me make an informed decision are greatly appreciated.

well, is your PR status linked up to your job or your spouse? if for your spouse, you don't need to inform the IS of anything, you're free to come and go, i was informed of that, if you got it through your job, you may keep it but you won't get it renewed as they will tell you that you've been posted abroad of Singapore too long, it happened to a friend of mine.

you can always check with the official IS website.

hi i used to work in bank too and dealing with expat benefits etc.

If u plan to come bk to Singapore again it depends on how soon u coming bk. As i remember u have to apply for re-entry permit upon expiry of the first application. Best u check it up and check whether if u need to be physcially in Singapore each year for a period.

And another reason is, if u give up now it will be difficult for u to apply again given that Singapore is very strict in their laws and rules. Unless u are not so bother about this.
