PMLA & LTVP

Post by alsonleys » Mon, 06 Apr 2026 10:08 pm

Hi All,

Here to sought more advice and if anyone have similar situation would like to share.

Me:
Age 30
Education Bachelor Degree
Income 25k/monthly (With CPF contribution)

Wife
Age 33
Education Bachelor Degree
No Income

My wife is currently 6 month pregnant and reason why we didn’t apply this earlier was due to complications with MOM and eventually appealed successful.

So now have applied for PMLA while waiting for ROM then eventually LTVP.

1. Would she be able to extend her STVP while waiting for ROM & LTVP application?
2. Would her being pregnant affect the LTVP application?
3. Would her lack of income negatively affect the LTVP application?
4. Anyone know the average timeline for PMLA & LTVP, online stated 1 month for PMLA and 6 weeks for LTVP. Would it be faster/slower normally?

As its nearing her due date, im worried that the LTVP will not be in time for her delivery, in this case would she be able to give birth in singapore? As we would be already ROM-ed by then.

Appreciate any advice or people with similar experience to shine some light on this

Foreigners are welcome to give birth in Singapore. This is high dollar medical tourism and is great for the economy. They have no reason to say no, the child benefits nothing by being born in Singapore — no status, no benefits, just the words “NOT A CITIZEN AT BIRTH” emblazoned on their birth certificate. Therefore she should get an extension, if nothing else, for being pregnant and intending to give birth in Singapore.

She isn’t due for 3 months, that should be more than enough time to sort out the rest. She doesn’t need any income as long as you can support the both of you. However, that doesn’t guarantee she will be approved. You just need to take things one step at a time, wait for the PMLA and proceed from there.

So are you legally married or not yet…? The usage of the word “wife” is a bit confusing. But you said waiting for ROM so I assume not married

1. Maybe, if you show evidence your ROM location is booked. An existing LTVP application has no bearing on STVP extension unless she has been granted IPA for LTVP.

2. Maybe.

3. LTVP only looks at Singaporean’s ability to financially sponsor the foreigner spouse. Your spouse can be unemployed no problem.

4. Processing time is case by case basis. Someone’s processing time might be shorter, yours might be longer. Just be patient.

After reading through the previous posts from the OP, I can’t tell if he is a Singaporean or PR, but he mentioned a 1 year ban was imposed because the girl he got pregnant was a former WP holder. Subsequently he got the 1 year ban lifted after getting support from his MP.

If he is a Singaporean, then the child will be a Singaporean at birth if delivered in Singapore, provided they are married. I still think she will be allowed to give birth in Singapore regardless of any of that… just be prepared that PMLA/LTVP could be a major challenge… may need that MP again.

Yes, we are not yet married. Have already booked my ROM on 17 April 26. Hoping PMLA cleared before then and we can apply for LTVP. Or perhaps any passes in between for her to stay and give birth?

The ICA has a specific path for a "Visitor Seeking Permission to Give Birth in Singapore” which includes an extended stay beyond the typical 30 day SVP.

Could follow admin sms’s nephew where the ex-WP spouse was granted 1 year LTVP to give birth and then subsequently banned from SG.

Won’t be surprised if only 1 year LTVP is given too in this case and renewal could be rejected. We don’t know how ICA will process in this case.

MOM approval letter is from MOM.

PMLA & LTVP is from ICA.

Both are different entities. Just because MOM changed their mind about the appeal doesn’t mean ICA will feel the same way.

Yeah, from my understanding is if never get mom approval = ban by mom through Ica. In my case mom have already approved while ica have no reason for any ban except rejection of ltvp

I want to be optimistic, but this appears to be a clear violation of the WP terms. To close one eye on that would be quite surprising. Was getting the 1 year ban lifted a permanent or temporary measure? Was it only to allow birth in Singapore? This is NOT a question you can ask the authorities — all you can do is quietly proceed and hope for the best. Sometimes things get overlooked. For example, when I first entered Singapore in 1996, I was only supposed to be allowed 2 extensions on my SVP, but we quietly requested a 3rd — to our surprise, it was approved. Sometime later they spotted it and commented that it shouldn’t have been granted… but by then it was too late.

I wish you luck. Please keep us updated, as this is not something we see often on this board.
