International schools??

Post by cyber_m0nkey » Mon, 18 Apr 2005 8:21 am

I will be moving to Singapore with my family later this year and will need to organise an International School for my kids. Both are currently in pre-school, but my eldest will be starting kindergarten next year. We were initialy thinking AIS, but would like to hear from others as to their opinin of AIS and should we consider other schools.

We haven't decided wether to find a school and then find a place to live close by or to find a place to live then find a school close by.

Any advice you can offer is much appreciated.

Hi,

I've looked for int'l school for my 4 yrs boy. I visited most popular int'l school in Singapore. You may need to consider the cost, location, programs provided and school's style (philosophy, believes, atmosphere, theme and goals etc.). I would suggest you to get the schools' brochures first and go to visit the schools before you make the decision. Don't rush and worry!

You can always find good daycare centre and kindergarden close to your place in Singapore. My son is currently going to a Montessori kindergarden, then I've plently of time to compare and consider. You can also have time to meet some parents and new friends here. I am sure those people will give you a lot of valuable advices.

Here is my personal comments on some of the schools I visited.

AIS - very good, nice people, good facilities, heard a lot of good things from other parents and friends BUT far from the center of the city and quite expensive
Tanglin Trust - very good, nice environment, close to the centre of the city, nice people, good comments heard from friends BUT most of the students are Bristish and cost is a little bit above average but lower than AIS
United World - nice people, good facilities, close location, many good comments from friends and othe parents, students from many different countries (very international), fee is on average BUT very long waiting list
Australian school - new facilities, nice environment, nice people, fee is on average BUT far from the city, most students from Australia and New Zealand
Oversesas Family School - nice people, very close location, students from different countries, provide full-day program (approx. 9 am to 3:30 pm) from K1 (age 4), cost a bit below average BUT school facilities seem a bit old

Again, don't rust and don't worry. You can get help everywhere in Singapore. Goodluck!

Thanks very much for your reply.

We still have some time before we move. Also I come to Singapore quite regularly at the moment so I will take some time during my next visit to visit the schools and have a look.

Hi,

Not sure if you've decided on the school or already relocated to Singapore.
If you decide to send your child to the American School and need a house, let me know.
My house is near to the American school and as my family will be relocating to another country in July, we are looking for tenants.
If you are keen, we can discuss further.
For your info only, we have quite a number of expats staying in my condo, with full facilities and lots of children and stay home mum.
Very friendly to family and children with good facilities and my unit has always been owner-occupied, meaning very well maintained and nicely furnished. If you are interested, email me at [email protected], thanks.
