Sgc by birth, dual citizenship, defaulter, can't get back: help!

Post by Graciousr325 » Tue, 28 Oct 2025 8:29 pm

Dear community,

My name is Shawn, a Singaporean born citizen that immigrated with family at an early age, didn't go through any schooling in Singapore. My parents did do an Exit Permit, and renewed my passport with expired in 2020. Did visit Singapore before using that passport.

Did get an registration notice by mail, parents asked me to email cmpb about denouncing citizenship, asked for bond and other forms to be filled out. Parents didn't seem to want to do the form and life got in the way. So, then I forgot about it until now.

I did get an Canadian citizenship by that time, I as a Chld wasn't fully aware of the consequences of delaying ns or the potential that it can't be renounced until fulfilled ns.

Now, I wish to return to Singapore, have told cmpb but the issue is my parents don't want me to go back.

Any advice or just never return?

Thanks,

Shawn

I want to keep Singaporean passport and renounce Canadian passport.

My family is currently in Canada, I am studying overseas in China and I have no relatives in Singapore.

I also currently do not have any physical Singapore ID.

Hopefully sms or ms are still around who can give advice or is my only options:

A. Never return

B. Hope parents let me go back and I face the musick.

Thanks,

Shawn

Why do you want a Singapore passport when you have no ties?

Why do you have to get your parent’s approval, aren’t they responsible for this mess?

Your whole line of questioning seems illogical.

Why does this matter now, and why does it matter so much to you?

If you are really committed to doing that, more power to ya. I think it is advisable to write in and let them know your situation and intentions, rather than just showing up unannounced.

Hello young man,
A Canadian citizenship has pathways to work in the U.S. Why decide on Singapore now? Millions of professionals around the world dream of living and working in North America.

You should know that SG won't let it go today, regardless of reason, prison time awaits even if you serve the NS. Do you know how hard it is for SG natives to get jobs, in the backdrop of an environment that favors expats and foreign talents???

Not everyone will agree with me, but there are enough who will echo my views.
Please enlighten us.
