Singapore PR approval for Filipino

Post by AjVasquez » Sun, 10 Aug 2025 3:02 pm

Hi, I’m a 31 year old female who has been working in Singapore for the past 10 years—5 years on an S Pass and the last 5 years on an LTVP. I’ve been employed in a government-supported school for the past 5 years.

My husband is a Singaporean of Filipino ethnicity who has completed his National Service and reservist obligations and purchased a resale flat in September last year. We do not have children yet.

I’d like to know if we have a good chance of obtaining PR approval.

Thank you in advance.

I'd think that you have a good chance. Especially considering your age. Having a child or a "bun in the oven" would make it even better. But I think I'd still go ahead an make the attempt based on the length you have been working here already. Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

We submitted our application in 2021, one year after getting married. However, a year after applying, we received a rejection.

So this year, we will be trying again. Hopefully this time we’ll get the approval🤞🏻

And still no bun in the oven? Marriage of convenience?

This topic is quite sensitive for me and my husband as we are trying but we still haven’t been given a baby. We’ve been wanting to have one but still…..Hope this is clear.

If applied through family ties scheme where the Singaporean spouse sponsors you, 1 year of marriage is considered a bit short to show ICA that the marriage is stable and can be seen as marriage of convenience.

Can still try to apply now since 5 years of marriage is considered stable & genuine relationship but with no children, chances may or may not be low.

You were probably in the group that would have benefitted from waiting two years (after marriage to apply for PR).

One quick question - how old is your husband (there's some indication in your post, but the exact age could still vary quite a bit)?

Most Filipinas seem to want kids… sometimes even more than the husband!

Not saying this is the case for you, but I think a lot of couples focus too much on “trying” to have kids rather than “enjoying” the act, and the latter tends to be far more effective.

Don’t give up… I was born 9 years after my two brothers (my mom was sure she couldn’t get pregnant anymore, so I was a big surprise).

Hi y'all! I've been in this forum for some time now but as a passive reader. This topic is close to my heart as my daughter-in-law got her PR thru family ties.

My son is a Philippine-born Singaporean who also did his NS, and is still an Army Reservist and now a father of two. His wife is a pre-school teacher who was on S-Pass prior to marrying my son. Upon marriage, she changed from S-Pass to LTVP+. Her PR application was filed shortly after the birth of my first grandchild. Son applied Sg citizenship for Grandkid and her Birth Cert was included in DIL's PR application.

3 months after the PR application, son took the initiative to see our MP and request for her help to write a letter to ICA to consider DIL's PR application. DIL's PR in-principle approval came out two months later. Once she completed the other formalities, she got her NRIC.

Glad to see the switch from passive to active, welcome aboard!

One interesting thing that has been controversial for Filipinos migrating to Singapore is whether they can claim themselves as Malay race. Apparently at one time it was even taught in schools in the Philippines that Indonesians, Malays and Filipinos share a common race, and technically there some truth to that. Linguistically too, Tagalog, Bisaya have a lot in common with Indonesian and Javanese. Apparently there was a time when Malay race was also accepted for Filipinos in Singapore, but was subsequently reversed after locals got wind of it.

Of course Chinoys are different and generally accepted as Chinese race, even though they might be culturally distinct. This is where the idea of “what is a race” really starts to get interesting.
