Curious about how postal codes work in Singapore

Post by Kariney74 » Sat, 02 Aug 2025 6:02 am

Hi all,

I’m planning a trip to Singapore soon, and I started looking into how their postal code system works—and wow, it’s incredibly precise! I read that each postal code actually points to a single building or location, which feels really different from how it’s done in a lot of other countries.

I’m curious if anyone here has used Singapore postal codes in mapping tools, logistics software, or even for personal projects. How reliable is the system in real use? Does it hold up when using GPS apps or doing address lookups?

Also, if you’ve ever done bulk data work (like deliveries, geo-tagging, or mobile apps) with Singapore’s address system, I’d love to hear how you handled the postal codes—especially if they tie in with coordinates or building-level accuracy.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Wow, interesting! I remembered when our postal codes were only 4 digits and they were to 'generalized'. And they made them 6 digits to differentiate each and every block.

Totally agree—Singapore’s postal codes are super precise. I’ve used them for mapping and deliveries, and they work great. Just watch out for unit numbers in high-rises.
