Is it okay to submit a friends address as a residential address in Singapore with a work holiday pass?

Post by rukar » Tue, 10 Jun 2025 12:19 pm

I'll be staying in Singapore with my work holiday visa and I want to know if submmitting a friends address is fine as a residential address (I'm planning for submmitting that address for about 2months and then changing it after I find a home)

I already have my IPA letter but for actually getting the pass issued, It Indicates that I need Singapore residential address, which must meet the housing requirements to get the pass issued. It's a condominium so the housing requirments should be fine.

But I wasn't sure if submitting a friends address is okay...

I also found someone they put their hotel address and was able to open a bank account, is that possible?

It should be fine as long as your friend knows about it.

Is it a rental address or your friend is the owner of the property?

Thank you for the reply!
It's a rental condominium. My friend was asked to submit some of my personal information from the owner so I sent my passport information and fin number. Which I do have permission from the owner so I hope it will be fine...

As long as owner permits and does not block address for registration, it will be fine.

All property owners should keep on eye on the foreign tenants enquiry service.

I've and friends have had nasty surprises there - in my case discovering a PRC had registered my address for their work permit.

The same website lets you manage and cancel people who use your address for SPASS, EP, WP etc.

Note: if your details (phone number etc) are up to date w ICA, you will get a text if someone registers to use your home for a pass application with MOM.

I used my business partner's home address (a rented semi-D) when I first moved over to Singapore. No issues. OK, it was 20 years ago but who's counting?

Usually, you can use a friend’s address if it’s a proper residential place like a condo, as long as they agree. Just make sure it meets the housing requirements stated in your pass conditions. Using a hotel address might work for some things like opening a bank account, but for the pass itself, it’s best to follow the official rules to avoid issues. Hope that helps!

They can be quite anal about this. After COVID it seems like some checks were performed and MOM sent me a nastygram — they seemed to know for certain that I didn’t live at the address on record (which was true — my employer had updated MOM with the wrong address). They let me off with a warning, but to be fair, the warning should have gone to my employer. Even after I manually corrected and informed my employer, they went and updated the wrong address, again. Luckily I caught it and switched it back… I then sent my employer a nastygram to stop updating MOM.
