When to Apply for PR – Indian Male Married to SG Citizen

Post by guerlainophile » Mon, 05 May 2025 2:37 pm

Hi everyone,

Looking for some advice on when would be the right time to apply for PR, given my current situation.

I’m an Indian male, just got married to a Singaporean Chinese woman five days ago. We’ve been together for over 8 years and living together for more than 5. I’ve been based in Singapore since 2015 on an EP, but I was retrenched in March this year. I’ve never applied for PR before.

We completed the PMLA before getting married, and my wife will be applying for my LTVP with PLOC today.

Here’s a quick summary:

My details:

Nationality: Indian

Race: Indian

Profession: Advertising Creative

Previous Salary: $10K/month

Time in SG: 10+ years

Spouse details:

Nationality: Singaporean

Race: Chinese

Profession: Advertising Creative

Salary: $12K/month

Given that we’re newly married but have a long-standing relationship and cohabitation history – and that I’ve spent a decade here – should I wait the typical 2 years before applying for PR, or would it make sense to apply sooner?

Would appreciate any insights from those who’ve been through something similar. Thanks in advance!

If I still had my job, I probably would have – but given I was retrenched and don't have an EP anymore, I need to sort out my LTVP first as I'm currently on STVP. And I've heard LTVP + PR applications take way longer. So, only LTVP it is for now. :)
