Unemployed SC living abroad applying for LTVP for foreigner husband

Post by Sal » Thu, 10 Apr 2025 3:55 am

Hi y'all,

Posting our situation to see if anyone in a similar position has gone through the LTVP process and what the outcome was like.

We’re a 29F Singapore Citizen and 30M foreigner currently living in the United States. We’ve been married for over 4 years, with no children yet. We both fall under the “Others” category and share the same race/ethnic background. I hold a Bachelor’s degree but am currently not working, while my husband has a Master’s degree and is employed full-time.

We met and got married in Singapore in 2021 when my husband was working on an S-Pass. Later that year, we moved to the US for a job opportunity he received. Before leaving Singapore, I was working and earning around S$3k/month, and he was earning about S$4.5k/month. Since moving, his salary has increased to nearly S$20k/month. Mine is essentially S$0.

We'd like to return to Singapore primarily because my family is there, and because we'd like to start a family of our own. My husband's employer is fine with him working remotely. We’ve applied for a spousal LTVP, but I (the SC sponsor) am currently unemployed, which makes us worry that our application might be rejected in spite of everything else.

We’ve been married for a while, are both well-educated, financially stable, and able to support ourselves. That said, I haven’t come across any examples of an unemployed SC sponsor successfully obtaining an LTVP for their spouse.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone with similar experiences, especially if you’ve received approval. TIA!

You need to refine your search: viewtopic.php?t=136445

Read through all the pages for the full story.

Somewhat similar but the difference is the couple have a child and the SC wife is a SAHM (stay at home mom). The foreigner husband got a job offer in SG and used his payslip to show the family can survive on his salary even though the SC should be the one who is employed as a sponsor.

Take note just because this case managed to get LTVP doesn’t meant your husband will get LTVP too.

I'm an unemployed SC (sahm) and my spouse and kids got LTVP last year. I can't say if it mattered to ica but I included a letter to explain I'm a sahm, info about my spouse's job and salary, my bank account statements, etc. It's definitely possible but not guaranteed since the sponsor is unemployed.
