SC Singapore Citizenship application of Filipino-Chinese successful after 8 months!

Post by 20characters » Thu, 05 Dec 2024 2:45 pm

Just got one of the best surprises today: SC granted after just 8 months! We were expecting a wait of 1.5 years to 2 years based on what we've read here on the forum and other websites.

Our timeline since arriving in SG:

2019 Q1 - I arrived in SG on EP
2020 Q2 - Wife arrived in SG on DP
2021 May - Applied for PR
2022 Mar - PR granted
2024 Apr - Applied for SC
2024 Dec - SC granted

Our profile when we applied for PR is here: viewtopic.php?f=78&t=134139&p=864059#p864055

What changed since then (2021 VS 2024):
1. Had a son born in SG. On LTVP during application. He got PR after we already applied for SC.
2. Changed company twice and increased my income 190k>220k>250k.
3. Wife got into a PhD program at NTU and is almost done.

I really think that what got us the early approval was due to my recent increase in income. We uploaded my new Cert of Employment as an update to our SC application just 3 weeks ago.

Unless the government has a way of knowing that we're expecting another son?? Though we've only consulted with a private gynae and haven't declared anything yet on any govt platforms. So I doubt it was that 😅

Thanks again to this forum for all the help. It's been very helpful to see other profiles which helps you gauge your chances, lowers your expectations, and increases your patience 😂

Congrats! Truly a huge rarity to hear Pinoys (okay Chinoys) to get an SC! Probably they see potential of your family populating SG.

Personally, I think I'm still at the bottom of the ladder.

@20characters

I've know a few over the years who have also be similarly successful. And, like your situation you all I know have shown continuous advancement/assimilation over the years. Sizeable increments in salary, children, and also while you maybe from the 'peens, your Chinese ancestry didn't hurt either. All apparently good enough to sway the old bias that stems from the 1960's. Congratulations. I also see a general overall better acceptance of those from VN in the past 10 years. Granted one must still stand out among your peers but at least is not a wet blanket anymore. Again, Congratulations.

I believe language also plays a part. Compared to other ASEAN Chinese from further afield (like Thai/Vietnamese Chinese), Filipino Chinese generally have superior English capabilities.

My Filipino Chinese friends like to tell me that their Hokkien is also better than Singaporeans… sorry, but I remain skeptical of that one!

Congrats @20characters! Hope your citizenship journey is going well. Did your Upload Documents button mysteriously go missing before the application outcome? If so, when did it go missing and how many days after that did you receive the positive outcome? Thank you.
