Relocation with family - PEP or EP?

Post by expatSince2010 » Mon, 07 Oct 2024 5:35 am

My employer has agreed to my request of relocation to Singapore and we're targeting a moving date of July 2025.

I meet the eligibility criteria for a PEP, however my employer could also issue my EP (I'd have to pay all the costs myself as the relocation has been initiated by myself). I've noticed that the timelines for PEP are up to 8 weeks + other 8 weeks for the DPs for my family (spouse and son). For an EP instead, seems the timelines are much shorter (2 weeks for the EP plus 3 weeks for the DPs).

Considering we're currently applying for schools for our son - I was wondering whether it would be risky to go for the PEP (my preferred choices), considering the timelines. If I apply for the PEP in December, I might get it by February and then the family by April - however feels a bit not much leeway for applications delay.

If I were to go for the EP, would I be able to switch to a PEP while living in Singapore? Overall - would anybody here strongly recommend one vs the other?

Thanks!

EP is the way. PEP is a weird hang on from the old Professional Pass days and the only reason you'd need it is to find another job without leaving Singapore if you lose your job. It's utility is very limited. I removed your double post.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!
