Need help understanding the possibilities of living in SG

Post by PaisleyLives » Mon, 23 Sep 2024 11:12 pm

Hello!

A rundown of my situation: My wife is a SG native, I am a 25yo white American. I have a degree in psychology from a <200 rating school and two years of sales experience. I think, if I continue sales, I can start making enough to apply for a sales job out in SG then get a work visa. The end goal is to be living in SG within 5 years by any means.

I am looking for a route that will land me in SG with PR on the table. When could national service be done?

I absolutely love what life will look like for me in SG and im really hoping to get good news from you! thank you!

You won't need to do NS.

Firstly find a job that can provide a work permit (hopefully a EP not an SPass). Work away at it and after a 3 years start applying for PR. If you're married you can apply under the family ties scheme which may be easier esp if your spouse is Chinese
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

The likelihood of a company hiring someone on S-pass or EP for a sales position is highly unlikely unless you can request for an internal transfer from your home country’s office to the Singapore office.

Next alternative is LTVP -> PR. But your spouse has to be working in SG to sponsor LTVP & PR.

You didn’t mention how long you two are married and where in the world you two are right now, whether your spouse is working now with how much income.

thanks for the reply

So internal transfer first then LTVP>PR, makes sense. I hear sales is fairly important out there, one of the more popular jobs.

recently married, two months ago. I live in USA, she lives in SG. Shes making about 5k a month or so as an independent contractor. She is 100% Chinese as well. (I always forget how important race is in these conversations hah)

Sales is always important. But that's like saying that water is good for you. It's not specific enough. What kind of sales? What do you have to offer to an employer over someone who is raised here and understands the local market? That might be important in your search for employment.

:o If you can get an internal transfer on EP, then stay on EP for whatever relocation benefits that the company might provide. You only convert to LTVP as a last resort when the company doesn’t wanna sponsor your EP anymore.

Now I’m concerned why doesn’t your wife know anything about how to get you here? She could have easily done a PMLA during the courtship, you come to SG to get married, then you can start living in SG on LTVP, work on PLOC for a couple of years, then apply PR.

The current long-distance marriage situation might raise some eyebrows with ICA.

smoulder is also right on what kind of sales you do. If it’s the same as what most locals here do, then it’s highly unlikely you can get an internal transfer. The next solution is LTVP, get PLOC to work, then after a couple of years, apply for PR.
Ask your wife to Google those acronyms and research if unsure.
