They have done studies on this. They have followed people around throughout their day, some who described themselves as lucky, others who described themselves as unlucky. What they found was that people created their own luck. Those who thought they were lucky approached life differently and that is what brought them luck.
A good example is one of the last times I left out of Chicago airport on my way back here. When I checked in online the night before, I was given a new option of “touchless ID” with TSA precheck, which I opted-in for. When I arrived the next morning, I located the line for TSA precheck and there were over 50 people (maybe 100) in the queue just to get to the entrance of the security check. Knowing I had “touchless ID” - I kept walking to the end or the line and saw it split between normal and touchless, with almost nobody using touchless. I proceeded directly into that line and must have saved 30 minutes of waiting at least. There was a less fortunate person who had signed up for touchless but had waited in the normal precheck line… he abruptly cut in front of me in a huff and said he was there first. I was a bit put off at first until I realized how frustrated he must have felt waiting in that line, and I just rock up and go right in.
Why was I luckier? I simply approached the situation with the idea that I might get lucky and might not have to wait in that long line.
