I’m more interested in where the money will go.

Can you blame them? An absolute liability.

I've always wondered this as well. I'm assuming the money will be returned to its origins, and any untraceable sums will simply be absorbed by the state. Don't think they're complaining...

So the state “absorbed” almost $1b from what I read. To put that in perspective, IRAS collected a total of around $5b in property taxes last year for the whole of Singapore. Where does it go after it gets absorbed? Is it treated as revenue or reserves?

Then there is the question of the balance $2b, was this outside of Singapore’s jurisdiction? What will happen to that? Why do I get the impression that these people will still be living a good life, with at least multiple millions instead of billions?

I wonder too...
We can probably build more MRTs /roads with their money...

I believe they are still very rich in many other countries, as their business is an ongoing on, so long as it continues, they are still earning by the billions. Even lost, they have channeled it in other countries, I think they are safer in less developed countries.

I wonder as well, but in the case of singapore, I don't think we'll ever be privy to the details.
