I'm sorry it happened to you. The most common "packages with upfront payment" to avoid, aircon servicing, hair salon, facial service, slimming, gym membership and face laser treatment. There is nothing the consumer can do, reporting to Case also need to pay and it's not something that can be enforced. This MO had been working well for the business owner in SG since decades ago. Opening a business in Singapore is a breeze, easy and cheap.abbby wrote: ↑Thu, 11 Jul 2024 11:58 amOMG, I finally experienced it myself.
Suddenly closure of the massage place I frequent, I was there two days ago but they didn't say a word of their closure! Now I'm left with un-utilised package and thank goodness I hadn't renewed. Not sure how ethical they are but rather disappointed with them keep quiet about it.
If they had mentioned earlier, I would have taken the opportunity to utilise the whole package.
Felt that the shop had been rather irresponsible to its customers. And that's common for beauty salons in Singapore ..
I will never understand why businesses do this. There's no way they find out that they will need to shut down on such short notice. The decline can usually be seen far in advance, yet they choose to blindside their customers. Dishonorable!abbby wrote: ↑Thu, 11 Jul 2024 11:58 amOMG, I finally experienced it myself.

Yeah, unfortunately, it's usually very unsatisfying for the customer. The most you can do is take to social media to complain, but other than that, nothing usually comes of it. There's new news every day, and things blow over quickly.bxagw wrote: ↑Thu, 11 Jul 2024 3:23 pmI'm sorry it happened to you. If you've paid a significant amount for the package, it may be worth it to pay the fee to reach a settlement. The business is bound to have records of your payment, and concealing such records seems like a crime.abbby wrote: ↑Fri, 12 Jul 2024 9:38 amYes not going to buy packages anymore. Though it may seem to be cheaper to do so but the chances of them shutting on you is absolutely shocking. I'll rather pay at full price (without package) from now on.
I checked on CASE, I would need to pay for the service. And worse, I have discarded my receipt. So pretty much all proof discarded.
I prefer the monthly payment model as well. Not sure if you recall, but a year ago, I made some posts about a new gym that I tried called ritual. Really liked it, and they seemed to be doing very well, with several branches islandwide, and two on the way. A couple months back, they abruptly announced that they were shutting all their branches effective immediately, which was so shocking to me. Goes to show that even when a business appears to be doing well, things may not be so good under the surface.Addadude wrote: ↑Fri, 12 Jul 2024 9:58 amI really like the Anytime Fitness model. Over and above the convenience of being able to access the gym whenever I want, I'm paying month-by-month, so if, in the unlikely event the whole franchise closes down, my risk is minimal. There is more risk of an individual branch closing down but I can just train at another branch if that happens.

It’s unfortunate how common these "packages with upfront payment" scams are in certain industries like aircon servicing and salons. As a business owner, I always make sure to provide clear, transparent, and fair payment options to build trust with my customers. It’s disappointing that these practices are so prevalent in Singapore, given how easy it is to start a business there.bxagw wrote: ↑Thu, 11 Jul 2024 3:23 pmI'm sorry it happened to you.
