Post by EdwardLai » Fri, 21 Jun 2024 1:07 pm

Hello,

I would like to check with anyone that had renounced SG citizenship recently (post covid) as most of the information that i found online might be outdated. by at least a decade

I have read in a few places on the web that the renounciation process for women is much faster than for men. Does anyone have experience with this? What is the quickest length of time for one to receive a renounciation certificate (not sure if this is the right term)? Would appreciate any thoughts on this matter.
If you are renouncing your SG citizenship, go to CAB ICA for doc papers. It will be send out to you via snail mail .

Once you recieved the papers, you have to get your newly acquired foreign citizenship/PP notarised by Public Notary or SG officials at their foreign Mission. Justice of Peace is NOT allowed to notarise these docs.

Return your Pink IC and SG PP together with the certified docs to CAB ICA.
It will take 6 weeks to process , you will received it via snail mail on that day it turns 6 weeks. Then withdraw your CPF monies by downloading the docs. The same process as above begins. It takes 3 weeks once they received the doc for vetting then on to the account department.
You should be able to see the monies in your local account on the 3rd week.
http://mycpf.cpf.gov.sg/CPF/my-cpf/Overseas/LivO9.htm

The speed is the same for either male or female. No diffs

What will hold it back if you have male child or fines or tax not submitted prior to renunciation. Anything to do with the gahmen agencies which makes you liable in the court of law in SG will hold back your renounciation. Or you are migrating to West Malaysia, you need to confirm you are not coming to SG . There is a 7 years self imposed banned if you are going to West Malaysia. (Do not worry it is not listed but this is the norm)

Is this crystal clear enough ? Good Luck

i read your reply on Sep 9, 2010 to a query about CPF - your advice to him was to take the renounciation note to go to the CPF Board to withdraw his CPF. Is it still true that the CPF board remits the funds directly right away to his/her account right away if the person goes to the CPF office in person?
Appreciate any insight on this. Many thanks.
Yup if you are in town and holds a valid foreign travel documents. This is the quicker way. If you brought along all your foreign docs proofs, you can submit directly with CAB ICA at 4th Floor. Make sure they acknowledge all the docs. It will may be process same day or a week depends on their vetting itself. You provide them with a return local mobile number for them to contact you.
The letter will come in a form of stating that "we have accepted your renunciation doc. There will be no mention of you are no longer a Citizen of Singapore". This is enough and bring along that paper and proceed to CPF board. Once they verify you, it will take no longer than One Hour to process . Make sure you have a local bank book to show proof. POSB account does NOT need any verification. All other local banks need proof that you are the holder of account.
If you have HDB house, you need to sell it first before you can make the renunciation process possible as foreigners are not allowed to own HDB apartment

OK ?

Edited Type error .Look out for the RED BOLD. Sorry my bad

I have renounced my citizenship mid april and it has not been 2 months since i surrendered passport , IC , and the notorised forms at ICA HQ , ICA has not provided an update ever since despite i sent email to them.

For those that has renounced recently , how long do they take to approve the renunciation?

Also , i have took the "receipt and acknowledge form for receiving my passport, IC and documents to file for CPF withdrawal, however they have mentioned that they will only close the account once my renunciation has been registered or confirmed by ICA.

now they took my NRIC , and Sg passport , they mentioned that i am still a singaporean until my renunciation has been confirmed. i have been without a NRIC card or sg passport for 2 months now.
i can't leave sg with my foreign passport , i feel stucked.

for those that thinks about renouncing , please take note that the IC and passport will be taken away from you until the renunciation is done , its 2 months for me now and there are totally no update and news! Not to mention that i cant work on my new job/career at my adopted country as i am still stucked in Singapore now.

If they have taken your SG passport, they can’t expect you to use that to leave the country. What would happen if you used your adopted country’s passport to leave?

You would not be allowed to pass through immigration as it would appear that said person was in the country illegally as there would be no record of that person entering Singapore within the range of dates that could possibly used as tourist 30~60 days. with that passport.

So that process (to move from Singaporean to foreign visitor) only get triggered/authorized after the renunciation process has completed?

I would assume you would keep a copy of the renunciation letter or other documents to show ICA along with the new country's passport. But I think I would call ICA in advance just to ascertain if there is anything else that would be required.

Seems like a catch 22.

With their extensive records, they don't know who's been in and out? Seems absurd to me.

If they are leaving Singapore after renouncing SGC they will have to depart using their NEW (UNSUED) foreign passport as they won't have the SG one or the NRIC if they came in using that. Therefore they have a passport without an entry stamp. How did they get here? Sampan in the middle of the night?

when i renounce , ICA's form will ask me to fill in the foreign passport number. i would also need to furnish foreign passport details by photocopying.

foreign passport number tagged to me , my sg nric number(i think) so they would know that its me at the immigration.

also foreign passport details to be given to sg banks when i change my sg bank details.

even if next time i wish to get a new debit card , i need to return to sg to furnish new foreign passport number (if the foreign passport expires) otherwise the bank might close my account.

idk how long will cpf credit my monies lol, im still waiting. i called the hotline the operator told me 18 week, i almost puked.

Do they at least pay interest for those 18 weeks? That would be the more important question to me.
