Bank account for domestic helpers

Post by abbby » Thu, 09 May 2024 5:20 pm

Does anyone's helper have a local bank account ...? ie: DBS, OCBC, UOB? Would think it's easier to transfer salary every month. What's needed?

With our newest helper, she was set up with DBS just prior to us getting her from the agent. Seems like this is becoming a checklist item for all new incoming maids because of the policy change that allegedly required salaries to be deposited.

However, in our case we have been paying lump sum advanced salary payments directly to her Indonesian account via Wise because she had urgent financial needs. I would not recommend this to others though — my wife is Indonesian and knows the protocols, trust factors, etc.

@malcontent yes my ex indonesian helper was also always asking for lump sum salary to pay for childrens' education..I'll personally prefer to pay month on month..same trust issue just in case they suddenly decide not to work.

@sundaymorningstaple thanks for the link will look into this
