PR Chance 2024 - Indian National

Post by wolfbuddy » Mon, 06 May 2024 9:51 pm

Hey guys

I am currently working as a manufacturing engineer with an EP which is due for renewal in September this year. The recent changes to the min. salary criteria for EP eligibility has been giving me many sleepless nights recently. I have recently applied for PR (about four months ago) and have been wondering the chances of it getting approved, so at least I can slightly be hopeful about my future here. Here's my background:

Nationality: Indian
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Single

Years in SG: 14 Years+ (came to sg when I was 15 under MOE scholarship to do my O lvls and A lvls here)

Education:
O-levels, A-levels in Singapore
Undergrad - B.Engg (NUS - 2018)
Postgrad - M.Sc (engg) (NUS - 2022)

Work Exp:
First job as Engineer with EP after undergrad (2.5 Years) (Salary: 48k + AWS).
Current job as Engineer with EP after post grad (1.5 Years) (Current Salary: 60k + AWS).

SPR application date: Dec 2023

I had only applied for PR once previously and it was rejected, but I am assuming it was mainly due to the fact that I quit my first job to pursue my Masters while the application was still processing.

Ps. I have a brother (EP holder) who is also in Sg with his wife (DP) and his 3 yr old kid (not sure if this will affect my chances of PR application.

So what would be chances of my PR getting approved (and typically how long does it take to approves). Thanks in advance

Honestly? Slim. No disrespect intended. Fact of the matter is quota in an overcrowded ethnic group which is heavily over-subscribed. You are not competing with the ICA's required guidelines, but are competing with your own countrymen with their qualifications. ICA, for all intents and purposes, as well as making the best sense, is going to take the best qualified and who looks more stable (married - but not always a sure win either - Married with child/children less likely to uproot at a better offer - and it's a composite score and depending on what the Government needs at any given period of time). Could take up to 24 months conceivably, and the result could still be rejected or approved - we've seen both numerous times here and also seen waits up to 28 months. All you can do is buys your ticket and takes your chances.

Usually, indians who do undergrad here have a good chance to get pr. So your schooling, undergrad and masters should help you in my opinion. However, similar to moderators like SMS have said, it is not always a given that if one does education in sg, then pr is awarded.

Yes, i too think that your previous pr could have been rejected as you went back to student pass when applying pr via PTS. Also, it might have been too soon to apply pr right after you graduated. From my observation in this forum, by average it takes 3 to 5 years after graduation for an indian undergrad to get pr. So may be you need to stabilise in this job for 6months atleast and then you can try applying.

Regarding your brother, did he also go through the same path like you in sg? I hope it is your elder brother. Meaning that, did he also did O-levels, A levels, undergrad, etc. in sg? Asking this because, it can help to relate if your brother also faced similar rejections.

Moreover, one other crucial point is you havent said about your parents. Were they also working here? or by any chance they had any resident status here before?

If there is no other problem, there is some good chance that you may get it this time. Chances can be better if applied as a married couple.

Chances are slim, that is true, Single Indian may be seen as using Singapore as stepping stone to Melbourne, Chances would be better if you were married to Singaporean Indian and have a few boys !
